The Results Are In

I finished my degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.33.  I’m happy with it, but knowing that I could of easily avoided the GPA crash in my second semester by taking a summer course, It could have been higher.  I was 0.1 away from graduating with distinction.  I’m still proud though that I never cheated to get my degree.  I witnessed a bit of it and from talking with others,  there was a bunch more.

Anyways who cares.  I’m a graduate!

PS anyone interested in coming to my house this new years eve, give me a comment/call/IM/email/smoke signal.

I love my school

From the CampusWatch monthly newsletter:

On July 18, 2007, WSUPD Officers received a run to The Towers Residence Hall on a “fight in progress”. On arrival they met with a 22 year old female resident and her roommate. Investigation revealed that one roommate objected to the way the first room mate “looked at her” and began striking her repeatedly with a coat hanger. The victim sustained numerous welts to her arms, shoulder and wrists. A broken coat hanger was found at the scene.
The aggressor room mate was arrested and charged with felonious domestic violence. The victim room mate was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment and later released. The case is proceeding through the Wayne County Court system.

The semester starts in 6 days.

Finally, and Summer Vacation Begins…What? Only 3 Weeks Left?

So it’s finally over.  I got it to partially work.  We gave our demonstartion, then he wanted to talk to each of us privately.  I was thankful he gave me the chance to speak out what I’d been thinking all semester.  For some reason, the group member in charge of sending in the report decided not to give it to him at the demonstration.  We had to wait until he received it to get our grades posted.  So I looked this morning to see if it was posted and it was.

A-

I’m curious to know if this was based off our private talks.  Maybe he graded the report individually since he asked me which parts of the report were written by me.  Even if I got 100% on my report, that meant the lowest grade I received on my project was a 75% ( I was expecting between 40% and 60%).

I’m now officially a cumulative B student.  I wonder if its enough to place me in the top 20%.  It would be great to gradutate with distinction.

Good news and bad news about my design project…
Bad news is that its not working in any way, shape or form.
Good news is I got a 94 on my exam, which means…

Exam - 37.6/40
HW - 8/8
Presentation - ?/8
Report - ?/14
Design Project - ?/30

I have a guaranteed 45.6% in the class.  If I get at least 70% on my presentation and report tonight, that puts me at 65% which is a passing grade without getting anything on the project.

Which means despite this class from hell, in 1 week’s time I will be 7 credit hours away from freedom.

Oh and I finished book 7, but I’ll write about that some other time (It was awesome).

Busy, busy, busy

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

Its been a busy couple weeks. Schoolio has definitely picked up its pace. I have projects, reading and/or homework every night.

I’ve been better at keeping a workout schedule. 5 times a week, I either ride my bike for about 10 miles, ride my bike 3 then run 2 or go down to the gym to run and do weights.

Not a whole lot of news. Consciously decided not to go to McGee’s last Friday. We decided rather to have a fire at Chrissy’s. I drank Woodchuck cider, while Chrissy and Lauren had wine. Kevin showed up and a few others. Lauren had work in the morning so it wasn’t a late night.

Sunday was Lisa’s birthday so we bought groceries and made her dinner (Italian sausage w/ peppers, pasta, caesar salad). I made — I believe — my first cake and despite me screwing up the simple 3-step directions, it still turned out. We watched Empire Records and left around 1.

Reading what I wrote, my life is pretty boring. Busy, but boring.

Work, School, HotSauce

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Approximately 10 work hours left before I am once again unemployed… but possibly not for long.  I found an open position doing computer work for the school of medicine.  I sent them an email and resume and I got a reply saying I made the short list.

It’d be really nice to get the job.  Theyre only looking for 10 hrs a week.  Thats perfect for my schedule.  Besides at their pay rate, I’ll make as much as a 15 hr week at hollywood.

Tonight is HotSauce’s last Thursday night at Fifth avenue.  Theyre moving on and up.  I’ll be there tonight and so should everyone else.

Summer is almost over

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

12 days left of summer. I’m half ready. Part of me wishes I had more free-time to go somewhere. Knowing me — even if there was another month to go — I’d still spend it trying to get in at least 40 work hours a week. Another part of me wants to go back and get out of there as soon as possible. Its so close; 36 more credits, 32 if I can convince them my internship is worth a 4 credit elective. My class schedule is quite nice this semester. Monday/Wednesday 3:30 - 10, Friday 12 - 5. I set it up to give me time for a job, only I don’t have one set up yet.

I’m not looking for anything special. I just need something that I can put up with for 10-20 hours a week, preferably not one that has me working weekend nights *cough* Hollywood Video *cough*. If I could find something that pays for my day-to day expenses (gas, food, etc…my weekly McGee’s tab), I would be so grateful not to dip into what I’ve saved this summer. The scholarship money helped a lot in my savings goal. I plan on putting most of it in a CD. I always thought those had a better ROI, but they’re only about 4.5% APY, but I guess an extra $10 a month isn’t bad.

This concludes my mini blog-out-of boredom marathon. I’m out of here in a few minutes, Going to Lauren’s for dinner then to EDHS’ first home football game.

Random fact: I have a huge craving for pierogi and crepes right now.

Sweet Jesus!

TBS is showing Saved by the Bell: The College Years

Unfortunately it has taken the spot of my second favorite cranky doctor, Becker (House is #1).

No more classes for a month and a day off, today.  Well kinda, I’m going in for a few hours of overtime.  Then the rest of the day with Lauren.

And for a change in thoughts.  I won’t be at McGee’s tonight, but it is not because I am boycotting it.  McGee’s got rid of Malibu Karaoke, and some regulars who were friends with the Friday night host have decided to boycott it.  They’re really upset about it, because it came out of the blue to them.  Fact is, McGee’s has been thinking of dropping Malibu for well over a year, now.  I’ve been going there since I was old enough to drink and this is the second rotation of hosts I’ve seen.

So, while I understand why some people are pissed off, I’m not leaving my bar.

So Close, I Can Taste It

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

You can tell its the end of summer when my procrastination levels rise while meaningless objectives are not only created, but met.  Still have an essay to write for the work scholarship.  Still have a final in 6 hours that I’ve done very little studying for.  However, I did sign up at CultSpace.com to form The Congregation of Pants Off Time, because you know how important that is.

I have one more thing to get out of the way before real work: the weekend recap…

Deadlines

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Just 2 more days.
Tomorrow is my final in signal analysis and Wednesday my packet is due for the scholarship contest.  I have done nothing for either.

I think today I will start the scholarship essay.  I’m not too worried about the final.  If one thing engineering teaches you, its trade-off evaluation.  I calcluated it out that I need a 55% on the final in order to get a B in the class.  This means so long as I don’t crap myself and rub it all over my exam like a primate, I will pass.  And passing (without bringing down my gpa) is all I want from this class.

Some people may say, “but John, if you only need a 55% to get a B, why dont you shoot for an A?”  My reply:  “Because you’re not good at math.”

I’ve done the work and a 55% is the lowest score for a B, however lets say I get an 87%, thats 32% higher on the exam.  Know what my grade is then? a B+.  a perfect 100% will get me that A-, so will an 88%.  But do you know how much that affects my GPA? Not damn much at all.

I think my time is better spent on the essay worth $5K.

How was my weekend?  It was great, but thats going in another post.
