Workin’ for the Weekend

Friday, August 10th, 2007

It’s finally Friday.  I cant wait for the weekend to start.  5 more hours of work.  After work, Lauren and I are going to see Joe and Keara perform in Boxfest at Planet Ant.  Its a bunch of 15 minute shows.  Joe’s show (”Super Mario Bros. 3″) was picked by the committee to be one of the performances.  Everyone should come.  For $10 you get to see 15 shows and food.  Come at 6 for cocktail hour.  Kevin has his show tomorrow at the same place.  Unfortunately I cant make it, because I will be at the Nickel Creek/Fiona Apple concert (hell yeah).

Pictures of Kyra’s Birthday

As promised, I uploaded some pictures of Kyra’s birthday party. I decided to try the new google photo service. Its nicely integrated into picasa.

Anyways, the photos can be seen here.

Saturday was party day

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Saturday was Kyra’s 1st birthday.  Meagan hosted a party for her and her daughter who also turned 1 that week.  She did an amazing job.  Lots of decorations, snacks, pizza, crafts, and much more.  They rented a Care Bear costume for the kids to have pictures with Love-a-lot Bear.  I was supposed to be the one who wore it, but the costume was for a giant.  I’ll have pictures on Flickr soon (I say that a lot without doing it).

After the kids’ party was the magarita party at Tammy and Keith’s.  The four of us and Lisa went through 2 fifths of tequilla, a jug of rum island ice tea, and a good amount of other various alcohols.  Rob coincidentally lives in the same complex, so he walked over to visit.

And lets not forget that the Tiger’s took out the Yankees that day, making it an all-around very good day.

Dance, Magic, Dance

Installed iPodLinux on my Nano, today. Played with it for 10 minutes, got bored, realized it was useless. I’m restoring it now.

Tigers won and I couldn’t be happier. They play in Detroit tomorrow with Rogers.

Looks like its movie night at Shaun’s. His mom bought him X-Men 3 So I’m going there soon.

For those who don’t understand the subject line, be amazed:

Busy, busy, busy

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

Its been a busy couple weeks. Schoolio has definitely picked up its pace. I have projects, reading and/or homework every night.

I’ve been better at keeping a workout schedule. 5 times a week, I either ride my bike for about 10 miles, ride my bike 3 then run 2 or go down to the gym to run and do weights.

Not a whole lot of news. Consciously decided not to go to McGee’s last Friday. We decided rather to have a fire at Chrissy’s. I drank Woodchuck cider, while Chrissy and Lauren had wine. Kevin showed up and a few others. Lauren had work in the morning so it wasn’t a late night.

Sunday was Lisa’s birthday so we bought groceries and made her dinner (Italian sausage w/ peppers, pasta, caesar salad). I made — I believe — my first cake and despite me screwing up the simple 3-step directions, it still turned out. We watched Empire Records and left around 1.

Reading what I wrote, my life is pretty boring. Busy, but boring.

Back in School

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Get back in school and I completely forget to blog.

Classes are time consuming, but are fortunately only 3 days a week.  I still need a job, cause the school of medicine one didn’t come through.  I sent him an email last Tuesday with no reply.  I emailed him a few days later from him to reply saying that he lost my email, had a strong candidate already, but to show him some past work.  I quickly put a portfolio together and email him the address.  Once again no reply for days.  Whatever, I don’t think I want to work for an employer to repeatedly overlooks me, anyway.

Lisa was in a triathlon Saturday so Lauren, Chrissy and I drove to Monroe to see her.  Its a crazy event.  She came in at just over 2 hours.  Afterwards I spent some time at Adam and Mir’s before heading over to Chrissy’s for a wine tasting party.

I wasn’t impressed with the wine, but it sure was a fun party!   We sat around the pond until 2 drinking and talking.  Sunday like every week was spent recuperating from the weekend.

My Weekend, Part 2: The Detroit Jazz Fest

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Yesterday I made it out to the Jazz Fest.  Lauren was at work, so I decided to go it alone.  I actually enjoy going to the festival by myself. The past few years I have gone alone and met up with some people later on.  I had about 2 hours to myself before I met up with Adam and Miranda for Dr. John.

As much as I like the blues and swing and all the formats they have at the festival, nothing tops the classic quartet or quintet.  I managed to find just what I was looking for in the Donald Harrison Quintet.  They were this great band from New Orleans that, unlike most NO performers, were not tinged with a zydeco background.  I sat through most of their set and after grabbing a bite to eat, I sat in on a jazz clinic.  They were going over improvisation skills using some Sonny Rollins tunes.  After a while Adam had called to say he was making his way to Campus Maritus.

I took very few photos this weekend despite how much went on.  I guess I was too much in the now to record any of it.  Luckily others did and I hope they will share with me what they took.  What I do have will be on flickr soon.

My Weekend, Part 1: Sara and Bill’s Wedding

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Sunday was Sara and Bill’s wedding.  It was a very long day for me, so I cant imagine the two of them.  I took Lauren to the salon where Sara and the other bridesmaids were getting their hair done.  The smell of cigarettes and hairspray got me really sick, so I went home and laid down for a bit.  We got to Sterling Inn at 4  The photographer was there all day and I swear she took my picture about 50 times while in one of the rooms.  While the room with all the women was complete chaos; Lance, Kevin, Karl and I just sat and talked until it was time to change (and yes the photographer was there for that, too).

6 o’clock came and we started the ceremony.  The ceremony was something I had never experienced before.  They performed a variety of wedding rituals and I learned most of the history behind them.  We moved two rooms down to the reception.  It was a good time with great food and music.  It was nice to witness a wedding where the two were truly in love and were married not because it was ‘the next step’, but because they truly wanted it.

Congratulations Bill and Sara Waldecker.

Long Weekends Deserve Long Posts

Monday, August 28th, 2006

It was a packed weekend.  Friday after work was Sara and Bill’s party at McGee’s I was kinda worried when about 10:45 it was still just Chrissy, Lauren and me.  11 o’clock hit and everyone showed up within minutes of each other.  It was a decent crowd; I’d say about 20 of us.  By the time everyone showed it was too late to get pizza, so half of us ended up at Linda’s afterwards.  Not often do I get to spend time at Linda’s with Adam.  He, Chrissy and I stayed until almost 4AM.  Got to bed around 5.

Woke up the next day to get ready for Kevin and Carolyn’s wedding.  Picked up Lauren and Lisa and got there 5 minutes late, which was about a third of the ceremony.    It ended by 3:30 and we had 2.5 hours to kill before the reception.  We thought about going to Chuck E Cheese, then Chrissy called from the 2001 reunion and asked us to come.  Since Lisa nor I were 2001, we decided to drop Lauren off and get Wally’s custard.  We came back about 20 minutes later.  I got to see Shawn’s baby, Kyra for the first time in months.  We took Chrissy home to get ready for the reception and the four of us headed out (Chrissy and Lisa’s dates were in the wedding party).

Thankfully when we got there we found that all of us were seated together with Mrs. Beltz.  It was a huge relief.  I had a good time.  I had a few shots with Mrs. Seifferlein, then when Bethany came back from putting Xander to bed, I did a few with her.  She went from quiet-in-the-corner to twirling-around-the-dancefloor.  Its been a while since I’ve been on the dance floor with my friends, it reminded me of a high school dance.  Even more so because we got all dressed and up went to Chrissy’s first.  Her parents took pictures before we left.  Then after the reception we all came back, had pizza and stayed up late.  We spent the night and Craig made us pancakes and bacon in the morning.  Just like high school.

Sunday was spent recuperating.  I slept most of the day, watched a movie, played  some warriors, did laundry.  Lauren came over later and we watched some TV.  I didn’t get to bed until like 3AM, hence the office zombie post.  I’m feeling good now after a few cups of coffee and a cup of tea. I’ll probably crash once I get home.
