I love my school

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

From the CampusWatch monthly newsletter:

On July 18, 2007, WSUPD Officers received a run to The Towers Residence Hall on a “fight in progress”. On arrival they met with a 22 year old female resident and her roommate. Investigation revealed that one roommate objected to the way the first room mate “looked at her” and began striking her repeatedly with a coat hanger. The victim sustained numerous welts to her arms, shoulder and wrists. A broken coat hanger was found at the scene.
The aggressor room mate was arrested and charged with felonious domestic violence. The victim room mate was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment and later released. The case is proceeding through the Wayne County Court system.

The semester starts in 6 days.

For those who couldn’t make it to the concert, someone recorded most of it and placed it on YouTube. Here’s Fiona’s Bluegrass Criminal. (more…)

Workin’ for the Weekend

Friday, August 10th, 2007

It’s finally Friday.  I cant wait for the weekend to start.  5 more hours of work.  After work, Lauren and I are going to see Joe and Keara perform in Boxfest at Planet Ant.  Its a bunch of 15 minute shows.  Joe’s show (”Super Mario Bros. 3″) was picked by the committee to be one of the performances.  Everyone should come.  For $10 you get to see 15 shows and food.  Come at 6 for cocktail hour.  Kevin has his show tomorrow at the same place.  Unfortunately I cant make it, because I will be at the Nickel Creek/Fiona Apple concert (hell yeah).

Saturday was party day

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Saturday was Kyra’s 1st birthday.  Meagan hosted a party for her and her daughter who also turned 1 that week.  She did an amazing job.  Lots of decorations, snacks, pizza, crafts, and much more.  They rented a Care Bear costume for the kids to have pictures with Love-a-lot Bear.  I was supposed to be the one who wore it, but the costume was for a giant.  I’ll have pictures on Flickr soon (I say that a lot without doing it).

After the kids’ party was the magarita party at Tammy and Keith’s.  The four of us and Lisa went through 2 fifths of tequilla, a jug of rum island ice tea, and a good amount of other various alcohols.  Rob coincidentally lives in the same complex, so he walked over to visit.

And lets not forget that the Tiger’s took out the Yankees that day, making it an all-around very good day.

Dance, Magic, Dance

Installed iPodLinux on my Nano, today. Played with it for 10 minutes, got bored, realized it was useless. I’m restoring it now.

Tigers won and I couldn’t be happier. They play in Detroit tomorrow with Rogers.

Looks like its movie night at Shaun’s. His mom bought him X-Men 3 So I’m going there soon.

For those who don’t understand the subject line, be amazed:

My Weekend, Part 2: The Detroit Jazz Fest

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Yesterday I made it out to the Jazz Fest.  Lauren was at work, so I decided to go it alone.  I actually enjoy going to the festival by myself. The past few years I have gone alone and met up with some people later on.  I had about 2 hours to myself before I met up with Adam and Miranda for Dr. John.

As much as I like the blues and swing and all the formats they have at the festival, nothing tops the classic quartet or quintet.  I managed to find just what I was looking for in the Donald Harrison Quintet.  They were this great band from New Orleans that, unlike most NO performers, were not tinged with a zydeco background.  I sat through most of their set and after grabbing a bite to eat, I sat in on a jazz clinic.  They were going over improvisation skills using some Sonny Rollins tunes.  After a while Adam had called to say he was making his way to Campus Maritus.

I took very few photos this weekend despite how much went on.  I guess I was too much in the now to record any of it.  Luckily others did and I hope they will share with me what they took.  What I do have will be on flickr soon.

What the hell? — Coffee Rant

Monday, August 28th, 2006

I got a coffee from the cafeteria rather than the machine today.  This is the most vile, horrible tasting coffee ever.  It tastes like my dad’s (I have my own coffee maker, because his is so bad) or Tim Hortons *shudder*.  Its sad to think I’d rather drink instant coffee from the machine.

Why can’t people just support the local and (in my opinion) the best tasting coffee around, Cadillac — made right here in Madison heights, Michigan.

Passing Time

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Man, today is a long, slow day at work.  Im half tempted to leave right after my 3:45 meeting.  I have enough hours to do so, but then I dont get any OT.  Speaking of that meeting, its for the internship scholarship.  They hand 5 interns out of the 50+ a check for $5000.   Man that would be nice.  Man, I’ve used “Man” three times in post already, or is that four?

Bob’s been fairly quiet today.  I have one on backup from last week that I was saving for a rainy day.  It certainly is raining, but I’ll give him a few more hours.  He was bantering this morning, but a lot of people were talking around me so I couldn’t make any of it out.

Lauren and mine’s four-year is this weekend.  She works the day of, but we decided to spend the whole day together on Friday.  I think we’re going to spend it like the dorks we are and go to the Detroit Historical Museum, DIA and DFT.  I have two tickets for any movie at the DFT and I believe they expire soon.  Any Downtown suggestions for dinner?

I’ll have some camping updates later.

A Reunion of Many Old Friends

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

This weekend has been filled with poeple I haven’t seen in a long time.  Friday night at McGee’s, Tommy Cromboly and Jackie showed up.  I hadn’t seen them in about 3 years.  I got to talk with Jackie and catch up.  We were good friends in HS, but never much outside of school.

Last night was a going away party for a few friends.  We had a bon fire with the old crowd and I felt like I was in high school again.  Josh P has been in Grand Rapids for 3 years and is now packing up his three oxen and 5 boxes of ammunition and moving to Oregon; hopefully avoiding scarlet fever.  Nick Diamond got a job oppritunity in Madison, WI.  He’ll be gone for at least a year.

Lastly Karl came to Michigan for the weekend.  I caught him for a few mintues yesterday as he was driving past my house and hopefully we will catch him today before he leaves back for NY.

Somehow, Lauren managed to get next Friday through Sunday off.  We’re thinking of either going to Chicago or Traverse City for the Cherry Festival.  It would be a lot easier to plan if my computer didnt finally blow up.  There goes $100 I wasn’t planning on spending so soon.

Tonight is The Parcels Fireworks in Grosse Pointe.  We’ll be there around 7-8.  If youre going give me a call.

Oh, and its 1-1 in the 8th.  Were close to a sweep on the NL’s #1 team and staying a game ahead of CHW.

Tigers 12, Cubs 3

What a day for Kenny Rogers.

  • 200 wins.
  • 8 innings with only 101 pitches.
  • His club hits 8 HR
  • He gets in on the hitting action, himself with a nice double.to the fence.
