A few quick notes

Monday, September 25th, 2006

I’m about to grow my beard again.  Yay or Nay?

“Cheerleader Massacre” isn’t even close to the greatness of “Sleepover Massacre.”  Too bad “Sleepover…” is impossible to find.

“…I’ll Spit On Your Grave, Too!” was just…. bad, yet we didn’t turn it off.  I think one of the main characters was the father from Family Ties.

I bet we been together for a million years,

And I bet we’ll be together for a million more.

Whats the point of waking up at 9 if I don’t leave my room to start my day until 10:30?  I need to go and workout.  This post has ADD written all over it.  I want brownies.  I wrote “wan’t” first then realized I’m an idiot.

Back in School

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Get back in school and I completely forget to blog.

Classes are time consuming, but are fortunately only 3 days a week.  I still need a job, cause the school of medicine one didn’t come through.  I sent him an email last Tuesday with no reply.  I emailed him a few days later from him to reply saying that he lost my email, had a strong candidate already, but to show him some past work.  I quickly put a portfolio together and email him the address.  Once again no reply for days.  Whatever, I don’t think I want to work for an employer to repeatedly overlooks me, anyway.

Lisa was in a triathlon Saturday so Lauren, Chrissy and I drove to Monroe to see her.  Its a crazy event.  She came in at just over 2 hours.  Afterwards I spent some time at Adam and Mir’s before heading over to Chrissy’s for a wine tasting party.

I wasn’t impressed with the wine, but it sure was a fun party!   We sat around the pond until 2 drinking and talking.  Sunday like every week was spent recuperating from the weekend.

Its 9/08 all Day, Today. Drop ‘em.

Let me be the first to say:

Happy Pants Off Day

Getting Back in Shape with the Help of My Computer

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Since my summer class ended over a month ago, I haven’t workout out for a minute. A friend of mine has been training for a triathlon all summer so who feels guilty? Last night while having a pot of coffee at Linda’s Place, we got on the topic. I went to bed eventually and had a dream I was running (for sport). SO when I woke up this morning I said to myself, “I’m going running today.”

More important than running, to me, is getting back in shape. Being the nerd I am, I look to the internet for help and found tons of it. So here are the sites I am using to help get back in shape.

traineo1.pngFirst I needed a site to help track my goals. Traineo is a great site to keep track of your diet, workout and weight-loss. Its also community oriented so you can find others in your area or mindset, to help motivate each other.

runningmap.PNGNow, my workout of choice is running. There are two things I need when running: music and a course. PODRUNNER is a weekly 1 hour podcast with high energy workout music mixed by the host, DJ Steveboy. He keeps it all at a consistent BPM, so you can pace yourself off his beat. RunningMap.com is a great tool that uses Yahoo Maps to overlay a course. It will show you the distance at each marked point.

traineo2.pngThat takes care of my workout data on Traineo, but theres still the diet. I’m sure I could find some fancy site to keep track of all the food and drink I consume, but at the end of the day, all I really want is my total calorie intake. Where better to find how many calories are in a sliced of pizza than the people who administer the nutrition facts? The USDA Food Database is the best way to find how many calories each meal was. I simply tally it all in a notepad and enter my total in Traineo. If you just want to guesstimate, traineo has a way to just rate your diet from Great to Poor and it will assume the rest.

My Weekend, Part 2: The Detroit Jazz Fest

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Yesterday I made it out to the Jazz Fest.  Lauren was at work, so I decided to go it alone.  I actually enjoy going to the festival by myself. The past few years I have gone alone and met up with some people later on.  I had about 2 hours to myself before I met up with Adam and Miranda for Dr. John.

As much as I like the blues and swing and all the formats they have at the festival, nothing tops the classic quartet or quintet.  I managed to find just what I was looking for in the Donald Harrison Quintet.  They were this great band from New Orleans that, unlike most NO performers, were not tinged with a zydeco background.  I sat through most of their set and after grabbing a bite to eat, I sat in on a jazz clinic.  They were going over improvisation skills using some Sonny Rollins tunes.  After a while Adam had called to say he was making his way to Campus Maritus.

I took very few photos this weekend despite how much went on.  I guess I was too much in the now to record any of it.  Luckily others did and I hope they will share with me what they took.  What I do have will be on flickr soon.

My Weekend, Part 1: Sara and Bill’s Wedding

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Sunday was Sara and Bill’s wedding.  It was a very long day for me, so I cant imagine the two of them.  I took Lauren to the salon where Sara and the other bridesmaids were getting their hair done.  The smell of cigarettes and hairspray got me really sick, so I went home and laid down for a bit.  We got to Sterling Inn at 4  The photographer was there all day and I swear she took my picture about 50 times while in one of the rooms.  While the room with all the women was complete chaos; Lance, Kevin, Karl and I just sat and talked until it was time to change (and yes the photographer was there for that, too).

6 o’clock came and we started the ceremony.  The ceremony was something I had never experienced before.  They performed a variety of wedding rituals and I learned most of the history behind them.  We moved two rooms down to the reception.  It was a good time with great food and music.  It was nice to witness a wedding where the two were truly in love and were married not because it was ‘the next step’, but because they truly wanted it.

Congratulations Bill and Sara Waldecker.

Saving Silverman

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

I just watched Saving Silverman on TV.  I love that movie.  It has everything you need for a perfect movie:

  • Jack Black
  • R. Lee Ermey
  • A better looking version of Tara Reid.
  • The Arby’s Big Montana
  • and Neil Diamond

And two of the greatest quotes ever:

  • “You’ve been pinching loaves on the lawn? I play croquet out there!”
  • “Admit it! I’m the assertive man you need, and you’re the hardcore bitch I’ve always dreamed of!”

That, my friends, is cinema gold.
