Just 2 more days.
Tomorrow is my final in signal analysis and Wednesday my packet is due for the scholarship contest.  I have done nothing for either.

I think today I will start the scholarship essay.  I’m not too worried about the final.  If one thing engineering teaches you, its trade-off evaluation.  I calcluated it out that I need a 55% on the final in order to get a B in the class.  This means so long as I don’t crap myself and rub it all over my exam like a primate, I will pass.  And passing (without bringing down my gpa) is all I want from this class.

Some people may say, “but John, if you only need a 55% to get a B, why dont you shoot for an A?”  My reply:  “Because you’re not good at math.”

I’ve done the work and a 55% is the lowest score for a B, however lets say I get an 87%, thats 32% higher on the exam.  Know what my grade is then? a B+.  a perfect 100% will get me that A-, so will an 88%.  But do you know how much that affects my GPA? Not damn much at all.

I think my time is better spent on the essay worth $5K.

How was my weekend?  It was great, but thats going in another post.

Passing Time

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Man, today is a long, slow day at work.  Im half tempted to leave right after my 3:45 meeting.  I have enough hours to do so, but then I dont get any OT.  Speaking of that meeting, its for the internship scholarship.  They hand 5 interns out of the 50+ a check for $5000.   Man that would be nice.  Man, I’ve used “Man” three times in post already, or is that four?

Bob’s been fairly quiet today.  I have one on backup from last week that I was saving for a rainy day.  It certainly is raining, but I’ll give him a few more hours.  He was bantering this morning, but a lot of people were talking around me so I couldn’t make any of it out.

Lauren and mine’s four-year is this weekend.  She works the day of, but we decided to spend the whole day together on Friday.  I think we’re going to spend it like the dorks we are and go to the Detroit Historical Museum, DIA and DFT.  I have two tickets for any movie at the DFT and I believe they expire soon.  Any Downtown suggestions for dinner?

I’ll have some camping updates later.

A Bobism LiveBlogging

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

3:40 PM
Bob start knocking on his desk.  It was loud enough to be annoyed with right away.

3:40:30 PM
Hasn’t stoped knocking yet, I stopped what I was doing to start counting.  He must of already knocked about 60 times.  The beat is just a constant knock, no change up, at about 120 BPM possibly faster.

3:42 PM
It appears he’s done.  He finished out with a little flare.  It resembled the “Shave and a Haircut” rhythm for a finishing touch.

3:43 PM
Spoke too soon, he just brought the tempo down to about 2 BPM.

3:50 PM
Well I think he’s finally finished with his drum solo.  Its been just over a minute since the last knock.  He did, however, decide to let out a nice, audible “Beautiful! Just gorgeous!” It was loud enough to travel about a 3 cubicle radius.

During a phonecall with a colleague:

Me? I’m looking forward to a boring weekend… Yeah, well most of them are boring except when they’re not boring. Then they’re not enjoyable.

Wow, 8 in the morning and the man is already channeling Yogi Berra.

Bobisms

Monday, July 17th, 2006

At my job, things can get mind-numbing. Its a lot of internal research and … I’m going to stop right there about what I do. Point is, I could go crazy sometimes. I have a few things to keep me sane: my ipod, the occasional break to read my news and blog feeds, blogging. But if there is one thing I enjoy the most, its listening to the man that shares a cubicle wall with me. I’ll call him Bob.

Everyday without disappointment, Bob unknowingly entertains me with every outburst to his wife over the phone, watercooler-type talk with colleagues, frequent call to tech support and (my favorite) conversation to himself of his computer.

I call these things ‘Bobisms’.

So from now on, I will share the wonders of Bob and his Bobisms. Hopefully daily (possibly more) I will have a little Bobism to share. If OverheardInTheOffice.com wasn’t blocked here, I’d probably post them there. I wish could record his outbursts, because transcription just doesn’t do him justice. I must say, they’re not all insulting to himself. Sometimes he’s quite funny and that brings us to our first Bobsim:

On the phone with his wife about a puppy for sale through work.

“She has all her shots, is house trained and understands most general commands…which is more than I can say about our kids.”

Not the best one I’ve heard but its only Monday and there are still 4 hours left in the day.
