Awesome
Too all the engineers, scientists and mathematicians:
Happy pi day.
However, pi should not be truncated to 3.14. Thus, I believe pi day should be moved to the 22 of July. That is, 22/7.
Great. I started really getting into my new project (codename: heaven) and my crap luck begins. I left for the night, yesterday and when I returned, my computer was at the login screen. I thought maybe we had a power outage, but when that happens, my TV turns on as well.
Then I smelt the most dreadful smell to a computer nerd, the chalky smell of circuits when they get too hot or fry. I logged in and it wasn’t even a minute before the computer shut off. It wouldn’t power back up. This morning I tried again and it managed to power up. I used it for about 30 minutes before it crashed again.
So far so good, but now I am behind on where I want to be with my project as well as 2 days late on the new podcast episode.

Thought about switching to Typo for my blog software. Then I remembered I dont know RoR, nor really care to learn it at the moment. I recently upgraded to wordpress 2.01. A few nice changes. Oh, I finally added an image to that upper left box. I’ve been meaning to do that for about 3 months now.
If you were looking for a personal entry, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Sorry.
I received a comment yesterday in regards to WDET’s changes and the upcoming spring drive. Since my server was in the middle of migration, the comment was lost. Luckily I receive a copy of every published comment in my email.
I’m not saying I completely agree with this. Its a clever idea, but a little too harsh for me. I’m sticking with the traditional method of just not pledging this time around. I’m a recurring pledger, they’ll notice in the books that members aren’t renewing their pledges.
WDET’s decision to completely eliminate local programming in favor of nationally syndicated news shows is outrageous. So much for the “public” in Public Radio; local voices simply don’t exist any more.
What are they trying to do? Compete for advertising dollars?
Meanwhile, their website still outrageously claims to offer diverse music programming.
WDET’s Spring Fundraiser is coming up, March 31 through April 13. I plan to call in during their pledge drive and offer them a pledge of ZERO dollars, since this seems to be the only time they actually listen to their present - and, increasingly, former - listeners.
I urge others who feel as I do to join me. Pledge nothing, and let them know that’s what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.
And help spread the word. If you know of any other Detroit-centric blogs or message boards, get a posting out telling their readers to do the same. WDET’s last fundraiser slipped behind their expectations, and was held before the full impact of their programming change was felt. Voice your displeasure, and keep your pledge money in your pocket until they return to supporting local programming.
