WDET’s GM, Coleman, is Charged with Embezzlement

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Michael Coleman, the general manager of WDET has been charged for embezzlement at his last job at Michigan Public Media in Ann Arbor. According to the Freep:

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office says Michael Coleman, who left his job as deputy director for Michigan Public Media in July, faces a 5-year felony. He is accused of embezzling food, alcohol, airline tickets, lodging and money for his personal use.

This sounds familiar. Wasn’t ‘DET host, Martin Bandyke, fired –I’m sorry, he ‘resigned’– for accepting concert tickets? You know, that horrible, unheard-of offense of a radio personality seeing a concert for free. Somehow I don’t think taking a small perk, like a concert ticket, compares to airline tickets and Persian rugs.

Naturally, Wayne State stands behind Coleman, yet they couldn’t wait to drop Martin. Personally, I hope Coleman is found guilty and we can shake things up at WDET again. Hopefully this time for the better.

Currently Martin Bandyke is a personality for Ann Arbor’s 107one.
