Metro Detroit Airport Janitor Shows True Honesty.

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Taken from Ray at DetroitWonk.com.

After Super Bowl XL this month in Detroit, one of the most notable comments made by visitors to our fair metro region was how hospitable, helpful and kind Metro Detroiters were. Here’s another word to describe Metro Detroit; honesty.

Angela Jones, an $8 an hour janitor at Detroit Metro Airport found a purse near the Starbucks coffee shop near gate A40, one of the gates Northwest Airlines uses for international flights.

Jones immediately turned it in to a Northwest ticket agent, who looked through it trying to find a driver’s license or other form of identification. It was then that the two of them discovered that it contained an estimated $10,000 in cash.

Jones reported the discovery to police, and using the ID’s in the purse they located the passenger who lost it, just as she was about to depart to Tokyo to bring the money to her family in Hong Kong.

Thornetta, tonight at the Attic

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Come up to the Attic to see blues singer,Thornetta Davis and her band. She’s an amazing singer and her band is just plain awesome. She starts around 10. Get in early to avoid the $5 cover.

The Attic is located in Hamtramck on Joseph Campau, near Eveline Look for the Main St. Café across the street. 11667 N. Jos Campau.

I’ll get there between 9 and 10. If you can’t make it tonight, she plays every Wednesday. Try and make it another week.

30 Boxes

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

I started using 30Boxes.com a while ago. I must say, I’m impressed. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, its an online calendar. It uses the ajax that people have come to expect from web2.0 applications.

There are some great features with this calendar.

The One Box. Its a single text field that you use to input your events. Is very smart in guessing what you want. For example I can type in “Beers with Adam at Club FT 9pm next tuesday”. I hit enter and BAM! Next tuedsay has an eventfor next Tuesday at 7 pm called ‘Beers With Adam’ with location set to Club FT.

Buddies. It just so happens, I share my calendar with Adam and vise versa. He planned a Beer Run with his cousin and wants me to come along so he threw my name in the invitees list. The event now comes up in my calendar.

Syndication. You can’t have a web2.0 app without some xml goodness. 30Boxes does both: Imports feeds to add to the calendar and exports a feed to use elsewhere. They even simplified the import process by just asking for your username for Livejournal, Flickr, Upcoming.Org, etc.

Sign up at 30Boxes.com and subscribe to my calendar. All you need is my email (hint: its the gmail account).
