Jazz Master Dave Brubeck
Well work is over with and I now have a few days before school starts. Hopefully my registration problems will be fixed before Tuesday.
Last night was the openinig night of the Detroit Jazz Festival. Its the first one I’ve been to in years. Its amazing to see the evolution of Detroit. This year the festival is not only at Hart Plaza. Woodward has been blocked off from Jefferson to the Hard Rock Cafe with vendors and two more stages.
Last night was the Funk Brothers, making it the 3rd time I’ve seen them live. I was so happy to see such a big crowd of people. I saw people of all races and all ages; babies, teenagers, seniors. Its a great feeling. I will definitely make it down ther at least once more this weekend. My plan is to go on Monday for a great lineup:
Labor Day at The Detroit Jazz Festival:
4:30 Thornetta Davis - I haven’t seen her since The Music Menu was closed. I used to go see her every Wednesday night.
5:30 The Blind Boys of Alabama - I’ve only just recently discovered this band thanks to WDET.
7:15 The Dave Brubeck Quartet - My jaw dropped when I discovered that Dave Brubeck would be at the JazzFest. He is a household name in Jazz and I feel very lucky to have the chance to see him live.
I suggest you go down, because Pontiac has nothing on Detroit when it come to true culture.
