Okay, Saturday was the start on our beer extravaganza. First up…

Blue Moon
Type: Wheat Ale
APV: 5.4%
Location: Golden Colorado, USA
Brewery: Coors Brewery Co.
I am quite fond of the un filtered, wheat ales and this one is no exception. The brew is spiced with dried oranges amongst other things. I believe as with most wheat ales, it is best served in a glass with an orange slice. Personally, I dunk the slice in and swirl it, but never squeeze the juice into the glass. I think it becomes too sweet it you squeeze the slice.

Ebulum
Type: Black Ale
APV: 6.5%
Location: Scotland
Brewery: Heather Ale Ltd.
This was a great beer. It was much like a stout, very dark and rich, but with a sense of fruit to it. The ale is brewed much like a stout — dark roasted hops and barley, but it has the distinct ingredient of elder berries. Now I have never eaten an elder berry, I only assume they smell bad through Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail. My only wish is that I started the night with this beer.

Zywiec
Type: Lager
APV: 5.6%
Location: Poland
Brewery: .Zywiec Brewery
This was an extremely smooth beer. I think I drank it in like 2 minutes. For the Bud or Blue fans, I’d say this is a perfect beer to have. I really cant say much more. I like only a few lagers and this became one of them.

Hacker-Pschorr Weisse Dark
Type: Dark Wheat Ale
APV: 5.5%
Location: Munich, Germany
Brewery: Hacker-Pschorr Brewery
This beer blew me away. I first discovered Hacker earlier this year at The Majestic Cafe. I had no idea they made a dark weisse. The waitress suggested it and I was set on making it my final beer of the night. This wheat ale is brewed with roasted malt, giving it a caramelized taste. It was unbelievably light and smooth. Its color was deceiving. Quite a few places carry Hacker, but not the dark. If you ever are lucky enough to spot one, do not miss the opportunity. Side bonus: the bottle is 500 mL.
