Hitchhikers, Jedi’s and Balls

First off; its official, I’m going to be employed at General Dynamics. I should be receiving the paperwork in the mail today.

And now lets talk about movies. Over the past week I’ve watched a few.

Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story (Widescreen Edition)
I heard a few people think it was horrible. I thought it was one of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year. The comedy was brilliant. It reminded me of Zoolander, except Stiller was the bad guy. Vince Vaughn has this comedic style that no one else can duplicate. Maybe that’s why National Lampoon casted him in their Dodgeball knock-off, National Lampoon’s Blackball. Next…

Scooby-Doo (Widescreen Edition)
I won’t say much. I enjoyed it and plan to rent the second one too.

Star Wars Trilogy (Widescreen Edition)
I didn’t watch Empire and Jedi Special Editions yet; just A New Hope. It was neat to see how much they added in. If Harrison Ford wasn’t decades younger and Carrie Fischer skinny, I’d say it almost looks as if it was filmed within the past few years. There was an added scene that caught my attention though. Solo is confronted by Jabba before they leave for Alderan. Jabba is computer generated of course, but I was taken back to see him and Solo together with dialouge. I switched over to the commentary track to find out it was filmed with a stand in for Jabba and was to be in the original version. Jabba was to be stop-motioned in. They ended up cutting the scene out for budget reasons and in case the sequels never did come out. The scene lines up the opening plot of Return of the Jedi. Lastly…

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Let the critics complain, let the newbies to the series say they didn’t get it and let the others that don’t fit into the first two categories say whatever they said to call it “bad”. I thought the movie was amazing! It stayed very close to the book. The visuals were great. Marvin was so simple yet so perfect. Mos Def made made me forget the orignial Ford was white. Zaphod played a better Zaphod than I imagined while reading the series. The opening number had me laughing, and they suped up the original banjo played theme. Trillian could have been a little prettier in the face, but thats Britain for you. This is a definate buy once it’s released to DVD.

1 - Vince Vaughn is a great actor because of his voice. His voice is very distinct, and he uses it very well to convey emotion. I noticed this when watching Jurassic Park: The Lost World. You can also see it in one of the commercials for the new Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie Movie “Mr. And Mrs. Smith”, as he is apparently a support character, and he is in a commercial spot.
2 - Star Wars just plain rules.
    3 - I agree with you totally on Hitchhiker’s.
